I finally got rid of my last two bottles of conventional lotions made with parabens. Bye bye Trader Joe's & Nivea stuff. Good riddance! So far, replacing lotions and soaps with paraben-free versions have been easy. There's a decent selection at neighborhood drugstores these days. I like Avalon Organics and Jason.
My current favorite: Jason Aloe Vera. It's 84% aloe but doesn't have that slimy feeling that pure aloe sometimes does. It smells really good, too!I haven't been able to make the switch and throw out my conventional hair products though. I'm so addicted to the Herbal Essences, Pantene, and Garnier crap it's impossible to wean myself. Shame Shame. I know the stuff is gross and the ingredient list creeps me out, but it smells so good (in a chemically engineered kind of way)! Until I find awesome natural / paraben-free shampoo, conditioner, shine serum, and hair puddy/wax, I think I'm going to have to stick with the chemically enhanced versions. A girl can only give up so much at a time.
If you know of any natural and fantastic hair products, I'd love to hear your recommendations.

Just FYI.. Both Avalon Organics and Jason are on a list of "fake organics". I'm still using my Avalon Organics until it's done but I probably won't buy any more of it.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. What will you get to replace your Avalon Organics stuff when that's gone?
ReplyDeleteLuckily, I'm not a stickler for organic in my body products. I'm not a stickler for organic in my food, either. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about it and I'm willing to pay more for it, but there are way too many things grown/raised ethically that's not necessarily organic. Talk to small farmers all over the country that are doing things right but can't be bothered with the red tape of being certified organic.
Jenny, I heard about your blog from a fellow blogger and I love this information on lotions! I too have tossed out all by bad lotions. It is called Sweetgrass Naturals based and made in Fort Collins, CO! You should check it out, you would love it! I can purchase it at my Whole Foods. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your note! I'd love to check out Sweetgrass Naturals. I did a quick search and didn't come up with anything definitive, but I'll keep an eye out!
