The Emerald City

I just returned from a visit to Seattle, where I spent my middle and high school years. I couldn't wait to get the heck out of there when it was time for college. My family was dismayed and horrified that I would choose some small woman's college in Oakland over the University of Washington, a big and well-regarded state school, but like I said, I wanted to get the heck out of town. Now, 11 years later, I realize how good I had it. Seattle is a beautiful place. I can definitely see myself living there again someday.

We spent an afternoon at Gasworks Park, which is situated on Lake Union north of Downtown Seattle. The spot is popular with families and kite flyers. In the photos here we are looking south onto Downtown and the Space Needle.

After the park we stopped at Dick's, which is kind of like the In-N-Out of Seattle. No visit to Seattle is complete without a visit to Dick's.

And of course, no visit to Seattle is complete without lots of catching up with Mom and lots of visits to various Chinese restaurants with the family! Here in this photo we're having birthday cake because it was the 7th day of the lunar new year, which is considered "everybody's birthday."
